Mildred Avenue Community Center

Boston, MA

The new Mildred Avenue Community Center provides recreational facilities for all ages, ranging from daycare rooms to a recording studio with an editing suite designed for teens. The six-lane competitive pool with balcony seating and family viewing area has been a welcome addition to the community. No longer do they need to use neighboring communities’ pools for school events. The center also provides a large gymnasium and auditorium suitable for a variety of meeting presentations and activities.

The community had meaningful involvement in this project from the onset. More than 20 meetings were held to gather input on everything from site selection to interior color schemes. Their input resulted in several spaces being modified in the program including the dance studio, theater, gym cafeteria, library and two art studios. The project was completed in 2003.
