Mildred Middle School Boston, MA
Boston had the goal of building new middle schools that would promote the concept of ?small learning communities?, despite having 650 to 750 students. The site was chosen to act as a neighborhood school to promote community redevelopment. Co-located with a community center, the school was developed on a brownfield site in the Mattapan section of Boston. The building is organized to accommodate clusters of 190 students. Each cluster has a language arts, social studies, math and science classroom. A variety of spaces are provided to meet the needs of different learning styles. Small group rooms, cluster spaces and multipurpose labs support the interdisciplinary teams of teachers.
