Leominster Trial Court Leominster, MA
DRA adapted a 1926 junior high school for re-use as a Trial Court Facility. By removing the school's gymnasium and inserting a new structural floor between the basement and former auditorium, DRA was able to create a three-story facility from a two-story wing of the original school. The former 22' high auditorium was converted into two trial courtrooms, conference rooms and judges' lobbies. The tall arched windows, deeply coffered ceiling and period light fixtures of the former auditorium give special character to the finished spaces. The facility has two trial courtrooms, a public lobby, waiting areas, conference rooms, public service counters, offices and storage for probation and the clerk, judges' lobbies for two judges, secretarial support areas, and detainee areas.
