YMCA of Greater Worcester Central Branch

Over the past 100 years the facility has been altered significantly to respond to changing societal needs and evolving program requirements. Unfortunately this work lost sight of the original architectural intention. In the Summer of 2005, the YMCA initiated a design competition to select a team to guide them through the renovation process. DRA was selected for our vision and approach that emphasized an overall master plan with prioritized elements to best accomplish the goals of increasing membership, creating a new image and strengthening community ties. We proposed a new glass lobby connected to Main Street with direct visibility to a new 7,000 SF Wellness Center and new circulation core providing access to all levels of the renovated facility.
